The immobilizer system (IMMO) It is an anti-theft device integrated into the ECU that prevents the engine from starting if it does not recognize the signal from the key's transponder or the comfort module. It has been mandatory in all vehicles sold in the EU since 1998.
Immobilizer problems arise from: keys with damaged or unprogrammed transponders, a faulty comfort module (BSI/BCM), loss of synchronization between the ECU and key module, ECU replacement without an adaptation procedure, and CAN communication failures between modules. The result is a vehicle that either won't start or starts and stalls immediately.
The IMMO OFF remapping solution disables transponder verification in the ECU, allowing the engine to start without key validation. It is the standard solution when a used ECU is fitted and the keys cannot be adapted with the manufacturer's procedure, or when the comfort module is faulty and no programmable replacement is available.
