What does code P1612 mean?
Symptoms seen in the workshop
- Vehicle does not start
- Immobilizer warning flashing
- Engine cranks but does not start
- P1612 stored in ECU
Common causes of code P1612
- ECU-immobilizer communication failure
- Defective or unrecognized key transponder
- ECU replaced without vehicle coding
- Comfort module/BSI/BCM issue
- Immobilizer EEPROM data corruption
Fix by ECU remapping
The IMMO OFF solution deactivates the immobilizer authentication protocol in the ECU. Two approaches exist:
1. Code-level NOP patch: Firmware modification to bypass transponder verification routine. More robust and persistent.
2. EEPROM calibration: Modification of ECU EEPROM parameters to disable verification. Faster but may revert with updates.
⚠️ Important: Disabling the DTC without the correct calibration of the related system (IMMO OFF) is not a valid fix. Both the calibration maps and the diagnostic mask have to be modified.
